The main holy programme of the periya samy pooja is Kaluvetrum function . the main purpose of Kalumaram in the Kovil is to give a capital punishment for the criminal pangalee of the Kovil. In olden days when there were no common Judiciary system, if a pangalee committed irrevokable crime to another Pangalee of the same kovil he will be enquired by the head priest and then senior Pangalees and if he was found guilty he would be awarded the death penalty. The culprit will be made sit on the sharp point of kalumaram and he would meet a slow and painfull death . in fact if he was innocent the jKalumaram won't does any harm. Theis was and is a holy belief. Now this type of punishment is impossible but on other hand it remains as a holy symbol of justice.

On the day of periya samy pooja a particular pangalee will be the aruladee for a particular Kaval Deivam. For example betal leaf broker Natanmai Shri Shanmuga Nadar was the Kathava Raya samy Aruladee. He was the one who pierce the holy Goat with Javelin . after the sacrifice he was said to have invoked and bestowed with Kathanaraya Samy spirit.he was considered to be the rigorous Aruladee . After that head priest and other Aruladees would lift him and made him to sit on the Kalumaram's sharp point and would rotate him. All other Aruladees and all devotees would revolve around him and would prostate in front him. He partially conscious and partially unconscious mood, would bless all the devotees and would clarify for their life and personal problems. This scene would be a terrific gorgeous, symptoms glorious and blissful scenario to witness . by this ull street Kamatchi Amman temple was also mentioned as Kathavaraya samy Kovil. There were separate Aruladee for each Kaval peedam.
