As per Shivapuranam Lord Shiva destroyed Madhan the god of love and lust to stop further development of organisms. So this day is celebrated as Holi in North India .

So Masi new moon day is the day when old creatures are destroyed and is the beginning of new life generation .It exemplifys the destruction of impurities of mind and creation of new and clean mind. So most people of Hindu origin celebrate the peria samy Pooja on the Masi new moon day.It is a legend that the head priest and other Kaval Deivam peedam priests Knowingly or unknowingly impersonate themselves and edify themselves at least for that moment as concern god and goddess and invoke blessing on the fellow devotee. On that day of periya samy pooja the head priest and other priests wore artistical tight fitting costumes garlands, silver anklets and adorned with country weapons like arival, swords, Javelin, rope whip. They carry kumbha on their head . Ladies carry Mulaipari on their heads. All of them will mome to near by river bed in a procession with urumi, Tharai,Thapatai mellan : are all country musical leather instruments. They will have holy dip in river, fetch holy water in kumbha from a new spring on the river bed. They all will return back to the kovil in a chaotic and vehement manner with bombarding country music. With the same spirit head priest enter the sanctorum and does Abishakaam with kumba holy water and other abishakams follows then beautifys the peedam with chitadai and garlands. All other Kaval peedams will also receive the same beautification by the relevant priests. Then milk, fruits, pongal chitranna will be displayed as padiyal. Main pooja will be performed with deepam doopam Aradhana. After this the head priest ties his mouth with a cloth and with a ulukai in his hand begins to bless the crowd . it is believed that god descends on him. He is considered to be the Aruladee. He is suppossed to be unconscious about himself and behaves as if though he were to be the god. People will try to get clarification for their life problems. The priest will clarify one y one as it god is speaking directly to them . He also gives some directions regarding the Kovil pooja . this whole scenario will be surely, a interesting one to witness.

In the next day night a particular Goat will be immolated as sacrifice to Kaval Deivams and yet another grand Pooja will be performed. The head priest will give the clue about the price, colour the whereabout of the goat and some more information for the purchase of secret goat . More or less his clue will be nearer to the truth . one of our pangalee will follow the clue and he will find the particular goat nearer to the particular place and more or less at the same clue price. After the purchase the Goat will follow the pangalee instantanously. It needs not to be tied up. All other pangalees and head priests will wait at the entrance of the town to receive the Goat with garlands and country music. The goat will be purified with holy dip with kumba water and will be garlanded. Then the goat will be processioned to nearby river bed. Then a particular Aruladee would immolate the goat by piercing with a javelin. The goat will not run away instead it will prostrate before the priest as if though it submits itself to god. Then sacrificed Goat will be offered to kaval Deivams and will b cooked and distributed among the pangalees as prasadam. The Aruladees will bless the people. The whole temple will be in a spirited mood.
