Karuppa Nadars Clan

*********************************************************

The pioneer karuppa Nadars friend the hair stylist, who had accompanied him the journey from ammam puram to Virudhapatty as a friend to the son-in-law of Megavarnam Nadar, was also allowed to worship the bull street Kamatchi Amman . but he was not collected any Thalai Kattu Vari for th4e Kovil festival. The hairn stylist was treated just as a witness. He was allowed to worship the deity only through the small window at the back side.in the course of time he was also multiplied in number of family. Upto a tolerable population this custom was continued .then as a smooth separation and evolution the hair stylist heir generation and evolution the hair stylist heir generation with the help of pioneer "Karuppa Nadars heir generations" material help had constructed Murugappa samy temple at Thalai Paniker street of Virudhanagar and began to worship there itself. They have stopped to worship bull street Kamatchi amman. In time course they have installed many Kaval Deivans at their temple itself.

Karuppa Nadars Clan
*********************************************************

There are some subdivisional clan with in karuppa Nadar ThalaiKattu Natanmai, velrikan alies vedarekkar, Kallattan, kutty, chennampattyan are some of them. If we study their pedigree it goes back upto 6 to 7 generations. Each progenitor of the subdivisional clans must be the progeny of the pioneer Karuppa Nadar. The origin time of pioneer Karu[ppa Nadar is expectd to be 200 to 250 years old. There are around 300 thalai Kattus in Karuppa Nadar clan. If we enquire in and around virudhanagar peripheral villages with the help of Kovil records we can find even more ThalaiKattus.

1. Natanmai family:-
*********************************************************

The first male issue of pioneer Karuppa Nadar would have been conferred the Natanmai title as a heir right. As a custom the progenies of that male issue are called as Natanmai family.

*********************************************************
2. Velrikan alias vedarakan:-
*********************************************************

The progenies of the other male issue of the pioneer karuppa Nadar are called as velrikan alias vedarakan family.we don't know the exact reason for this nick name. Only assumption are there. Immolation of a goat by Natanmai family member at the time of periya samy pooja was main vevent. They used a vel to ppierce the goat. As a younger brother, might be , the pprogenitor of now velrikan alias vedarakan families would have kept and guarded that velk from and to the Kovil and river. Velrikan may be the deformed tamil word of vel + vaithirikiran ie vel keeper . the word vel vaithirikinan in time course could have changed to velrikan . vedarakan may be the deformed ould of vedan + arakan that means hunting +demon ie hunter demon.at the time of periya samy pooja a particular pangalee would so in search of the immolating goat as per the clue opf head priest. Tjhat search of goat is colloquially called as vetai aduthal that means hunting. That particular pangalee might be the progtenitor of the present veedarakan families . By this hunting their would have been nick named as vedarakan.

3. Kallattan family:-
*********************************************************

In olden days podi Mattu viyabaram ie bullock cart load business was the way of living for virudhanagar Hindu Nadar families. What is podi Mattu viyabaram? Say 100 years back there were no tramporting and travelling were bullock cazrt and Horse chariot. The agro commodities of then virudhapatty were loaded full on bullock cart and was sent ot other villages and towns. After selling that commodities there cheap commodities of that area would be bought and loaded on the bullock cart and would ride back to virudhapatty and that products would be sold here at a profitable rate. This type of business operation is called as podi Mattu viyabaram ie bullock cart load business. So for this business some nadars had business contact with some other villages and town. And yet somne other, to have a temporary or permanent establishment at that area, had settled in that village and town. By this a division of Karuppa Nadar families who had business contact with the area of Kalla nadu ie Devaram , theni, Moonar of Madurai District were called as Kalla Nattan as per the virudhapatty custom. That word Kallanattan would have been deformed into kallatan .

*********************************************************
4. Kutty family:-
*********************************************************

May be this present kutty families progenitor might be the last issue off the pioneer karuppa Nadar. So the progenys of that last issue might have been called as kutty ie small me.

*********************************************************
5.Chennampattiyam :-
*********************************************************
To deal with cotton some families of karuppa Nadar settled in chennampatty. So as per the custom they were called as chennampattiyam. Some of this families settled in Madurai and changed to high level commercial activities like coffee estate, cardamom estate etc. So the first letter of the divisional name has become the first letter of that pangalee's name

N stands for Natanmai
V stands for velrikan alias vedarakan
K stands for Kallattan

Like wise there may be yet more thalaiKattu's of our pangalees in other villages also. Some of the following Thalaikattus have material evidence. Some other have customary evidence. But karuppa Nadar pangalees did small trading and business for their vlivelyhood some families developed in business. Some enlarged in numbers. Some left without issues. Some went away to distant places due to financial debate or due to some family friction and lost contact. Non let us see the awailable pangalee families.
